quick day trip from Southern Hungary into Northern Serbia?

Hello--
I am of Hungarian descent and will be traveling to Hungary in Summer, 2009. While most of my relatives live in Hungary itself, the village of our ancestry is just over the border in what is currently Serbia. We'd like to head over there just to see what it looks like and maybe have lunch before returning to Hungary.

Does anyone know what it's like to do a border crossing from Hungary to Serbia with a US passport these days? We are pretty intrepid travelers (have been to Africa multiple times, India, etc) but speak neither Hungarian nor Serbian.

Thanks!
Margaret

Although I have not made that particular border crossing, I have traveled into Serbia and into Hungary and do not remember any unusual entry treatment in either country.

I would go and be prepared for anything.

My experience at other border crossings into Serbia (minus the Kosovo border) is that it's the same as for any other non-Schengen country- you show your passport, it gets stamped, and that's it. I would have to assume that the border between Hungary and the Vojvodina region is the same.
