We are travelling from Krakow to Budapest by car and we would like to stay at a quaint village somewhere in Slovakia, preferably in the mountains. We are willing to stay at a B&B or other nice hotel. We prefer upscale accomidations and like good food. Can you reccommend a nice place?

I would not consider Banska Bystrica a quaint village. It's a regional city nevertheless with a beautiful countryside around. There are a lot of quaint villages around Slovakia but not too many with upscale accommodation. As James suggests Banska Stiavnica although not a village but a small town is worth checking. Your question is very wide. OK, I will try to give a couple suggestions: Hotel Hubert in Gerlachov, actually the hotel is between Tatranska Polianka and Gerlachov very close to the highest peak of the Carpathian Mountains. Another suggestion: hotel Rozsutec in Terchova (birthplace of Juraj Janosik- Slovak Robin Hood). Gorgeous mountain surroundings and no less gorgeous folk songs. If you like it try to get CD from Muchovci band.
