Does anyone have any success stories of finding genealogy history especially from Prussia and Pommerania? I do a lot of genealogy research and I meet a lot of people who have been able to find the town where their ancestors came from only to find that the church records were all destroyed in WWI and WWII.
In case you aren't aware of this society, here's a link you should look at: http://pommerschervereinfreistadt.org/Shop/tabid/84/Default.aspx This group is based in Mequon, Wisconsin. Perhaps somebody there can help you.
Karen, thanks. I'm aware of that group. I was mostly wondering if anyone has any good stories of linking their genealogy research with their travels.
I will be looking for these stories as you will, Jarrod. I traveled to NW Poland (May 2006) in search of a Hinter-Pommern town of Dargislaff which has been renamed DARGOSLAW (not far from Grifice). We found the town and several surrounding ones that relate to my ancestors. The Luthern church connected with my family (or any church for that town) was not found... although there was a photo of this Luthern church found online before I left home. IT was supposed to have still existed. Someday I'll plan more time to visit there and take along a Polish speaking guide with me to help interact with the locals in search of information.
