I am in the early planning stages of a trip where I would start in Romania, dip down to Greece, then move to Croatia and Slovenia. How long I spend in each place will depend largely on costs. I know how much Greece costs in terms of hotels, meals, etc. Can anyone tell me how costs compare with Greece and/or countries in Western Europe, specifically in the areas of lodging and dining? Thanks!
Romania is cheaper. Greece, Slovenia and Croatia almost comparable to western Europe.
Consider sobe (rooms) or small apartments in Croatia. For my upcoming trip, I've booked nice places (one with a washer) that cost as little as 200-250 kuna per night. Prices will be more on par with western europe at Plitvice or in Zagreb.
Romania is shockingly cheaper than western europe, we were there last fall. We stayed in Sighisoara and visted Brasov. Our hotel in Sighisoara was the cheapest and the nicest we had stayed at in over 2 weeks of hotels.
We thought that Slovenia was also less expensive than western europe. We were in Bled and Ljubljana and the hotels, food, and drinks were very reasonable.
Slovenia is pretty inexpensive in comparison with the rest of Europe depending on what cities you decide to visit. Bled is definitely worth seeing but is more expensive since it is a popular resort town. If you visit Bled then you might want to also see Vintgar, a beautiful gorge walk which is just a few minutes drive away. Ljubljana is nice too. However the seaside is great. Depending on what time of the year you go, you might want to think about visiting Piran or Portoroz which is where many Slovenes spend their holiday at the sea.
