Praha train station to Hotel Eurostars David

We will arrive at Praha's main train station and need to find the best way to Hotel Eurostars David in New Town. The distance appears to be a little over a mile. Is it walkable or should we take the tram?

It seems that I have good news for you. Last time I was in Prague which was in September this year I saw that thugs are out and AAA taxi is in. AAA is IMHO the best taxi company in Prague. Nice, honest and drivers speak English.

I think you answered your own question. If walking "a little over a mile" with luggage is not a problem, it's walkable. If not, take the tram. If you think you will want a taxi, read Rick's warnings about how to avoid being scammed by taxis at the station.

Walking it is. I also read Rick Steves's information about the cabs. Thanks.

Speaking as someone who tried to take the tram but was unable to (because i had no Czech currency until i went to the ATM at the station...which only dispensed large bills that the tram wouldn't take), walking isn't bad. it's easily navigated to the more touristy hotel-filled area. we didn't have any issues walking.

Jim, I assume the "main train station" you're referring to is Praha hlavní nádraží (abbreviated as Prague hl.n)? As you'll be hauling luggage, I'd suggest taking a Taxi to your Hotel. As a previous reply mentioned, AAA Taxi is a reliable service. Thankfully the "no neck thugs" (as Rick calls them) have been given the boot! Prior to leaving the station, it would probably be prudent to get about CZK 100 or so. I can't recall if the Taxi's accept credit cards? Happy travels!

If your request an odd amount, like 3700 ck, from the ATM in the train station you should have get a 100 or 200 ck notes that will not be a problem to use to buy either tram tickets (they are not sold on the trams, but from various stands such as "Tabak" or pay the overpriced cabs. Don't know about anyone else, but I'd never risk my credit card to a cab.
As noted, it's a bit over a mile from the train to the hotel. If you do opt for trams, because of how the lines run and where the stops are, you will likely walk up to half that distance anyway.

We also use the AAA taxis in Prague. The other taxi drivers may not be happy but find the AAA.

With heavy luggage I would take a taxi. Otherwise you can take Metro. Station is right at the Main train station but you will have to change trains at Florenc and get off at Karlovo namesti. Then it's just a short walk. To get to the tram stop you would have to walk a little from the Main train station and then walk a little to your hotel again.
