I would not recommend a day trip to Vienna from Prague. You would spend at least 10 hours just being on the way there and back.

Even if you found a cheap RT flight, Vienna is not really a day-trip destination. You'd see so little, not worth the effort IMO. I'd save Vienna for a trip when you can give it 3-4 days.

I appreciate the feedback....but say we ARE going for the 1 day excursion to Vienna. Any suggestions/recommendations for a bus tour or 1/2 day tour once we get there by bus/train?

I've done the Prague to Vienna many times via bus, car, and train - 4 to 5 hrs one way...its like wanting to take a day trip between San Francisco and Los Angeles to do 1/2 day tour....It's shear craziness to want to do this as a daytrip and try and take a 1/2 day tour....you are way better off staying at least 1 night....the place I always stay at is Pension Suzanne right near the Opera house www.pension-suzanne.at/english/index_2.htm . Take a look at the bus and train schedules to see if the day trip option is really right for you. Personally, I have not found the need to take an organized tour since I'm usually in town for 2 nights for the Opera & have enough time to visit what interests me, but you might want to check www.city-discovery.com/vienna. You can also google vienna 1/2 day tours and double check on sites like tripadvisor to for reviews. All the main attractions are easy to get to by walking or by underground metro from Suzanne. Museums and places like the treasury take hours to get through. If you are only there a half day you will most likely only looking at the outside of most buildings without seeing what's in them. It's OK if you only want to say you've "been there", but you'll not get the true flavor of Vienna unless you stay a while.

A half day? - You could ride the tram around the Ring and hop on -hop off.

I would take 3 of the Prague days and use them in Vienna. Vienna as a daytrip is not going to be fun.

Trying to put it into perspective - if you lived in Eilat, would you take a day trip to Jerusalem?
