We will be in Prague late March/early April. Does anyone know of a restaurant in Prague that has traditional czech performers, not overly touristy, with decent food? Thank you.
I know restaurant U dvou kocek in Old Town. Patrons are mix of regulars and tourists. Traditional Czech food, excellent beer. Some nights there is an accordion performer playing. Or google: prague restaurants with folk music as I just did. You get plenty of choices. Czech folk night excursion looks very interesting. I think next time I am in Prague I will do it.
Be careful about going to U Dvou Kocek...been there only once in all the years going to Czech Rep...it is mostily tourists (many of them Rick Steves fans) they are overpriced, pad the bill, and there are pickpockets that wait outside. My Czech husband had to make them correct the bill, which was only done after my husband argued with them in Czech. There were quite a few men standing around next to and across from this restaurant which gave me the creeps. Especially when one of them followed us until I went to a police officer and he took off. We are in Prague at least once a year and that was the only time I felt unsafe. It is better to go to a place like U Medvedku. www.umedvidku.cz . They have a polka band on some nights. Polka is Czech music - not Polish - as some would think. The word comes from p?lka meaning little half for the little half steps in the dance. There are other places that have traditional czech performers but they are all touristy and pricey. It is really too bad they don't have a stage version of Czech dance and song like the Hungarians have in Budapest. The only close thing is the folk festival in Prague at the end of July - this year its July 28 -31.
Thank you!
