Prague to Ljubljana

Is it difficult to travel from Prague to Ljubljana. Is Salzburg a logical route?

I can only talk about the route from Salzburg to Ljubljana. We took the train on this route a few years ago - and it was an easy ride - only 2 or 3 hours long if I recall - you can check the dbahn website to find out exact times. Also, the ride was quite scenic.

Whether the route is difficult depends on the route you choose and the number of connections you make. I'm assuming you could also fly to reduce the hassles.

Well, I think it would depend on whether you want to travel by car or by rail. Have you visited Rail Europe's website? Interestingly, they have two options: one is to go from Prague to Salzburg to Ljubljana. Second is to go through Vienna. Altogether, you're looking at at least 10 hours on the train. It's not difficult, but you might consider breaking up the trip (and getting off in Salzburg or Vienna and staying for at least a day so that you can stretch your legs and see a new city). As far as driving is concerned, if you are planning to rent a car, be aware that many companies charge high rates if you take the car across the border. Good luck!

Hi Jennifer, I did that route, but from Munich, and also Vienna, with a stop over night in Salzburg, and it worked great. You can really see a lot of Salzburg in one day, and it's a short beautiful train ride down to LJU. Hope you have a great time!

Jennifer, driving by car the logical route is Prague-Brünn (Brno)-Pressburg (Bratislava)-Vienna-Graz-Marburg (Maribor)-Laibach (Ljubljana). Train-wise it's also via Vienna rather than Salzburg.
