Prague to Cesky Krumlov - rent a car, bus or train?

Two nights in CK, travelling with mother (her family came from Tabor in 1880's, she'd like to see it) my question is: would we have enough reason to have a car or would taking the bus be sufficient? We'll be in Prague 5 nights prior and I know not to have a rental there! I have read the posted archives on this topic but would like a current response. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
This trip -after Labor Day - with mom will be "fun yet challenging" as it is without being in a rental car as well, argh! sorry to all moms out there...you know I luv ya!

You can go by train or bus to Tabor then again by train or bus to Cesky Krumlov. Tabor is on the way to C.K. Nice historic town to see. Founded by Hussites in 1420. Hussites were rebels against established religion. Mostly peasants but defeating even crusade armies. There is a hussite museum in Tabor. Or you can rent a car but it is expensive and not necessary.

The advantage of a car is that there are a couple of very nice castles between Prague and Cesky Krumlov. And you choose well as it is a magnificent town. Five days in Prague is more than i could the though.

You could hire a driver. We have used Mike's Chauffeur numerous times for different trips and they are very reliable and safe. Check his website, you can also email and they will customize for you. His prices are very reasonable and then you can stop where you want and the driver waits for you.

We picked up a car in Prague and drove to Krakow, then to Cesky and then back to Prague, so the opposite route of you, but driving and navigating was quite easy and the nice part about the car was being able to stop at many places along the way...so it was a road trip, not just a destination trip. We had a picnic near a field of poppies, found some roadside restaurants in small towns that were interesting and had a great time. Partly depends on your mom and how much she likes the car vs. the bus. (Five days would be a bit much for me in Prague as well....maybe you can add another stop if you take a road trip)

If you want to just go to Cesky Krumlov for the afternoon, there are two tour bus companies in Prague. I believe the names are 'Martin Tour Bus' and 'Premiant Tour Bus'. I know one of them has a trip from Prague to Cesky Krumlov. The bus tickets are sold in the old town area. They have a booth with a person in it, so you can ask questions. You get on the bus at about 8:30 - 9:00 a.m., it's about a 2-3 hour ride to Cesky Krumlov. And then you come back to Prague at around 6-7 p.m. Ray

I used the Student Agency bus which was great! Fairlu direct, maybe only 2-3 stops along the way, comfortable, complimentary beverages, wifi and movies! I think the trip was right at 3 hours and you get reserved seating. I would definitely recommend it!

And you can purchase your reserved seats from home in advance on the web.
The price two years ago was about $7.60 US.
