Prague - stay in Old Town or Little Quarter?

I have never been to Prague before and would like opinions on where is better to stay (I realize everyone has different tastes and needs...).
I found two really good hotels in Old Town, Hotel Hastal and Green Garland. But there is an apartment I really like in Little Quarter. It looks like the sites that I am interested in are scattered enough throughout all areas of the city so I will be moving around quite a bit anyway so not sure where I sleep is an issue? Is there any concern with crossing the Charles Bridge at night to go back to the apartment? Are there enough restaurants/bars in the Little Quarter should we want to stick close to home at night? any info is greatly appreciated. thanks

Historical center of Prague is all walkable and safe. Lots of tourist around. No problem staying in the Little Quarter.

We stayed at Hastal July 2010. We were quite happy with it, excellent value for the money. It is 5-6 minutes to the Old Town Square, and nothing is far from there. Never felt a safety issue. If anything, Charles Bridge should feel safer later on as it is not over-crowded then. FWIW, we (middle 50s) walked all over daily, including as far as Vysehrad and back -and not by a direct route. Distances are really small here, and this place is very walkable. There are good restaurants and bars all over Prague, all you need do is look at the menu and peek in, and choose those that meet your tastes for food/price/ambiance.
An advantage of the Hastal, you can eat enough of a breakfast there that you won't need more than a snack during the day.

The hotel Ventana is on of the most enjoyable hotels we have ever stayed in. The location in old town is absolutely ideal. Look it up. Happy Trails.

We stayed in the quarter a few summers ago on my third trip to the city, and I loved it. There's no problem crossing the bridge, and the little quarter feels very safe and welcoming even late at night. There are several bars and restaurants in the area that a wonderful and friendly. I found it was actually a nice respite from how overcrowded old town can get. Enjoy -- Prague is a magical city.
