Prague/Slovenia/Croatia Travel Itinerary Help

Hi, I am going to Prague/Slovenia/Croatia from July 4 to July 18 or 19, starting in Prague. Could anyone offer advice on my route and transportation options? I found flights from Prague into both Ljubljana or Dubrovnik, so I could work from one end or the other. Also, how to allocate my time? I am thinking 3 nights in Prague and one night (two days) in Cesky Krumlov. Time in Slovenia/Crotia still needs to be allocated. Here's what I'm working on:
Prague to Ljubljana (plane)
Ljubljana to Lake Bled, caves etc (car) back to Ljubljana to drop off car.
Ljubljana to Rovinj (not sure if this is possible? bus or train)
Rovinj to Zagreb (train), rent car in Zagreb for Plitvice. Return car to Zagreb
Zagreb to Split (train)
Split to Korcula or Hvar or both (ferry)
Korcula/Hvar to Dubrovnik (ferry)
Dubrovnik and side trips (mostar?)
Dubrovnik home to USA.

I could also do the reverse route, going from Prague to Dubrovnik and working my way up to Slovenia and flying home out of Ljbuljana.
Any advice on my itinerary and/or whether there is an advantage of starting in Croatia after Prague versus Slovenia that I am unaware of? Thanks!!!!

We took the train from Ljub to Rijecka. From there, you could check out bus/train connections or rent a car to travel to Rovinj and then on to your next destination. I haven't been to Zagreb so I can't comment on that. We rented a car for a couple of days -- Opatija/Rijecka to Plitvice to Split. Have you considered keeping the car from Plitvice and driving to Split instead of backtracking back to Zagreb?

Sounds like a great time!

A couple of ideas: If you rent a car in Ljubljana for the Bled and caves part of your trip, you could drive down to Rovinj, Croatia. Just make certain your rental agreement allows you to take the car out of the country. We stayed at the tourist farm Rick Steves recommends near the caves and that would also be a convenient location for you. If returning the car in Croatia is prohibitively expensive, then return it to Ljubljana and take the train to Zagreb. Getting another car there would make the rest of your trip easy. Along with Plitvice, there's another park at Krka that I enjoyed. Although Rick Steves' book encourages a stay in Split, I preferred staying nearby in small town Trogir and making urban Split a day trip. The rest of your itinerary sounds great. You don't need (or want) a car in Dubrovnik, so you could make that your last stop. One caution: It will be very hot and intensely sunny in July.

Write if you have specific questions, and happy travels.

Thank you for all the helpful feedback. In considering your suggestions and looking at my itinerary again last night, I made some modifications as I dont want to feel like I am constantly on the move and trying to pack in too much. I am now going to fly from Prague to Ljubljana. Do an overnight in Ljubljana and part of the next day and then drive to Lake Bled. Two nights in lake Bled. The third day/night I will do the Julian Alps driving tour and sleep near the caves, as suggested. Will drive to Rovinj the next day and stay the night and do most of the next day in Rovinj before leaving for Plivitice where we will stay the night and then do the National Park the next day. After hiking, will set out for Trogir. Stay the night. Next day check out more of Trogir and Split and then take a ferry to Hvar. Two nights in Hvar. Then three nights in Dubrovnik.

I cut out Zagreb as I just dont want to be moving around a ton and want to enjoy the atmosphere of the places I visit. Does the itinerary look too ambitious or too slow paced in some instances? I am getting ready to start inquiring about accommodations. Thanks for all the great feedback.

I"m putting together a trip to Croatia in July. First 3 nights I will be Dubrovnik with the 3rd day either going to Mostar or Bay of Kotor. The 4th day flying to Zagreb with the goal of getting to Plitvice by nightfall...spending the night and touring the park the next day. Got special Croatia Airline flight for $40 US one way. That evening plan to return to Split and stay one night. Next day bus to Dubrovnik and will visit seaside towns. Fly out of Dubrovnik the next day. Trying to figure out whether buses between Zagreb, Plitvice and Split are doable as I'm still trying to figure out their bus schedules. Renting a car is possible but for 1 and half days it's 273 Euros.
