Prague, Salzburg and Vienna

Headed to Prague,Vienna and Salzburg with teenage girls this June and looking for something unusual to see or do besides the usual tourist sites. Any help would be great.

Give each teenage girl a fistful of money, send them off and tell them to be back at the hotel by suppertime. You might need the time off.

I'm chuckling at Monte's reply! In Vienna, you could go to the fairground- it's quite different from most US fairgrounds and is quite interesting. It has the original Ferris wheel.

You'll have no troubles in Prague - it is full of teenagers. Just tell them to take pickpockets seriously around the old town clock.

Well, Monte's reply is spot on! A wonderful shopping street in Vienna is Mariahilferstrasse, which is less expensive than the center of the city. Beyond shopping, a few Vienna suggestions gleaned from my teens: The Prater. This is the Viennese amusement park with the giant ferris wheel. More like an American carnival. The bumper cars come highly recommended. Donau Insel. This is an island in the Danube completely given over to outdoor fun and activities. You can rent bikes or roller skates and ride to your heart's content. The Spanish Riding School. Good for horse crazy kids, a bit boring otherwise. Rehearsals are a bargain compared to the full performance. The State Opera. Really. Tosca and The Barber of Seville are both playing in June. Anyone who has seen Bugs Bunny will recognize the music in Barber of Seville. Buy standing room or cheap tickets. Feel free to leave at intermission if you've had enough. Just being in the building and feeling the grandeur and excitement of performance in such a gorgeous space is a very cool experience. The opera ballet school also has its spring recital in June (at the opera house), if you have any dancers among you. Riding the subway. Always fun. See if you can find the tiny chapel that was unearthed under the Stefansdom station, and the Opera Toilet in another... Food recommendations: Wiener (Viennese) Schnitzel of course, Eis (ice cream in lots of flavors you don't see at home), and gigantic pretzels in Salzburg.
