Prague, looking for a hotel with reliable transfers from the train station

I will be in Prague for two days, I know that it would be better to arrive at the train stn during the day, but if I adjust my itinerary to arrive at the train stn during the day, I will only have one and a half days in the city. I had orginally planned on taking a train to Prague that arrives at 9.30 pm, it will be dark by then as I am travelling in November. I would like to know if anybody here has made arrangements with a hotel for a transfer from the train station to a hotel and if they could recommend the hotel provided they were reliable for the transfer and the hotel is clean, comfortable and centrally located. Since I am in Prague for a short time I really don't want to have to arrive a day later during daylight. Any advice will be appreciated. Thank you.

I stayed at the Arcadia Old Town in Prague and the owner, a very friendly, attentive man more than happy to help plan my visit, had a car pick me up at the airport for a very reasonable fee. I'm sure this same car service could pick you up at the train station.

The location is unbeatable -- literally one minute from the Old Square -- and I believe it's under $100 a night. Basically it's like renting an apartment, though, with (a fair/okay) breakfast delivered straight to your dining room table.

You might consider an apartment rather than a hotel. I stayed here in May

The apartment was really nice and in an area with eating places round about. Because it isn't quite central the eating places and the rent were cheaper.

It's only a ten minute walk across the river (great views!)to the edge of the Old Town and there are tram stops on the corner. The trams are incredibly frequent and will take you across the river to the Old Town or along the river to the area below the castle.

The agency were very efficient and organised a pick up from the airport for me which worked perfectly.

Of course they have other apartments if you want to be more central.

Have a good time.

Alan

PS There are pickpockets in Prague, as in any major city, and it pays to be careful. Having said that I've felt much safer walking around late at night than I would in (say) London or Manhattan.

Hotel Residence Retezova arranged a car to pick us up from train station for like 300 koruna. Which was pretty cheap. It got us to our hotel in about 20-30 min

We stayed at the U Tri Bubna right by the Old town Square. We did not know they provided transportation till we got there. We used them back to teh station, but they would have picked us up if we had arranged it in advance.

I arrived in Prague around that time and just took the metro from the train station. I got local currency from an ATM at the station and the tourist info office was open, so I also bought one day travel cards there, rather than having to deal with the ticket machines. Based on my experience in May, there will be lots of people out and about in the center of Prague until midnight - in May they were out until much later. There were policemen in the train station and the metro is in the same building, so you don't go outside.

ps - I was solo too.

FYI-Construction of a big building is still going on in Vienna on Kartner Strasse. Does anyone know if the construction workers are working on Sat. and Sun.? I assume not on Sun. but wonder about Sat.

We are in Budapest now, having just left Prague 3 days ago. We stayed at Hotel Paris and loved this hotel. It is just beautiful and elegant and the furnishings were just lovely. The service was really good, the breakfast (included) simply amazing. We stayed in room 201...two twins as we were two friends traveling together....and it was incredibly quiet. When we departed, we wisely chose to use the hotel transfer to the train station and it was perfect. Highly recommend this lovely hotel. Here is the link www.hotel-paris.cz

We have just returned from Prague and I'd like to second the suggestion for The Arcadia Residence in Old Town, Prague. Pasquale was so helpful and kind in the short time we were there.....and the hotel is in a great location. He will set up transportation for you. Enjoy!

Returned last week from Prague. Stayed at the Courtyard by Marriott, Flora. Great hotel! Just 4 stops total and one change from the train station. Metro in Prague has been the easiest from all the ones we have experienced in Europe.

Try Lida BB. They will pick up/drop off and Juri is exceptionally helpful. It's a little farther (15 minutes-easy by train/tram) from Old Town, but you have better/cheaper eating options.

Well, first of all there are two train stations in Prague. We came in from the south, which takes you to the main station (Hlavni Nadrazi). But we left from the station that trains from the north and west come in and out of (Nadrazi Hidesovice), which is a Soviet-era remnant complete with Soviet concrete art. So, if you are planning to take the train to Nurnberg, for example, you need to take a taxi or the metro to the latter. Check the train schedules carefully or you'll be in for a surprise.

The Courtyard by Marriott Flora is a great choice. We stayed there only because we were using Marriott points, but it turned out to be great! Out of Nadrazi Hidesovice you take the metro one stop to Muzeum and then change to Flora. Get off at the Flora stop, come up the escalator and the hotel is just to your right, across the street as you come out.

Dennis and Monica, you probably mean nadrazi Holesovice not Hidesovice. But then from nadrazi Holesovice Muzeum is the 4th stop by Metro not first. It is one stop from Hlavni nadrazi (Main train station).
