Prague in Winter

My wife and I are considering a four day trip to Prague in February. We would like to experience the city, catch the symphony and find a nice quiet hotel in city center. suggestions? Also, expectations about the weather?

From personal experience I can recommend hotel Andante. Quiet and just about 5 minutes walk from Wenceslas Square (Vaclavske namesti). Expect cold weather in February. If you are lucky you will have sunshine. Otherwise cold rain or snow. What to do and see: Rick Steves: Prague and the Czech Republic - says it all. If you want something what is not in the book go and see Krizik fountain. Google will tell you how to get there etc.

I found Pension Medvidku a decent place to stay (in Rick's book), and within a 5 minute walk of the Old Town Square- Wenceslas Square is close to the train station, but a little farther from the Old Town and Castle.

For weather, it will probably be on the cold side. Nobody can predict if there will be snow or rain, but I would expect more clouds than sun.

Prague in February will be very cold and the days are short. Expect rain or possibly snow most days.
I go to Czech Rep every year (sometimes twice a year) in no particular month to visit my inlaws with my hubby, so I usually don't stay in a hotel, except when I am staying late in the city. I always stay at Guesthouse Lida during those times. It's not in the city center, but the tram can be caught 10 min walk down to the river or metro can be taken 5 min walk uphill. Depending on when you go in Feb, the hotel prices should be pretty soft, so you could get a pretty good deal in the city center. I suggest looking on Tripadvisor.com at the reviews in the price range you are willing to pay. Then Google the hotel name for the website and book directly with them for the best rate. Don't expect to get much for the money you do spend for a room in the city center, as they are overpriced even when they are "soft" for what you get. It's more expensive to stay at a 2 or 3 star in Prague city center than to stay in Paris' Latin Qtr or Marias. But on the other hand, Prague is such a beatiful city to see, and I always make time even after all these years of going there to spend at least one day in the city. Just be sure to venture away from the main tourist area of the "royal walk" from the castle to old town to get better shopping and dining experiences.

Yes, expect cold and cloudy weather. If the cloud layer is somewhat broken, one recommendation is to be at the top of the Old Town Hall Tower close to sunset. This can be a spectacular time as the sun finally dips below the cloud layer and illuminates all those red roofs!
