Prague in 3 days

Hello...I will be arriving in Nurnberg from a river cruise and will have 3 days to see Prague. 1st day I am taking a private car and driver ( not interested in a bus) to Prague and can either stop along the way and arrive Prague late afternoon or go directly and get to Prague in time for lunch and tour the city. What type of tour should I take on the 2nd day, and also the 3rd day? Can I do this on my own (there are 4 adults) or should I hire a guide? I like to see attractions that may not be offered in a group tour. Are there things of interest outside of Prague or will I not have enough time? I usually get in full days of touring when in Europe.
Thanks....

You might look further south towards Cesky Krumlov and the handful of castles between Prague and Cesky Krumlov. While i enjoyed the Czech Rep Prague got boring pretty fast for my taste.

The best would be to consult Rick Steves book: Prague & the Czech Republic. You can do Prague on your own (with Rick Steves book) or you can hire a guide and then obviously you see and learn more about buildings, history etc.

Thank you... I do purchase his guide books, but sometimes word of mouth alerts me to special attractions not mentioned in guide books. Or a great cafe or restaurant not to be missed. I look forward to this trip.

It's hard to go to Prague and not see the standard sights, standing on the Charles Bridge is magical, as is Old Town and the Castle.. I found Prague to be stunningly beautiful. There is something called "The Museum of Communism" (in Rick's book I think) that will completely grip you, I spent 3 hours there, very very interesting. As in all major cities in Europe you can easily spend an afternoon just wandering through streets and side streets dropping into shops & cafes. Enjoy!

If you are interested in WWII/the holocaust, visit Terezin. You could either go on the way in from Nuremburg, or take a tour from Prague - but since you are driving into Prague by private car, I suggest seeing it on the way in (you'll actually enter the outskirts of Prague before getting on the road to Terezin). Book a tour of the "small fortress". In Prague you will not use a car at all. Visit the Jewish Quarter with a guide - do everything else without. Museum of Communism is compact and excellent - don'tskp the short film at the end. After seeing the film, walk a few yards to Wenceslas Square and stand in front of the Hotel Europa to see where the Velvet Revolution you just watched unfold in the museum actually took place. You won't get bored in Prague with only 3 days - save Cesky Krumlov for another trip.

The castle and related buildings are easily worth a half day. My favorite time, and one that will grab you, is the Old Jewish Quarter. Take a couple hours, buy the synagogue and graveyard tickets. Easy to find, quite authentic.
Also, here as all over, I like to see performances in the great venues during the evening. Well worth it.
