I am looking for a safe, reasonable hotel in the Lesser Quarter - Mala Strana. I will be meeting friends but staying by myself in the hotel.
With all my heart I can recommend the Red Lion. It's on the Royal Route it's halfway up the hill to the castle and about five minutes walk from Charles Bridge. The Red Lion is actually two hotels on opposite sides of the road and breakfast is served in a small cafe next door to one of the hotels. Good, clean, safe rooms and the rates are fair, all of the decent hotels in Prague are not cheap but this one is affordable and good. If you want to stay on Na Kampa Island at the foot of Charles Bridge I can also heartily recommend both the Charles Bridge Hotel and the Kampa Garden. Charles Bridge is pricy but worth it and Kampa Garden is modestly priced, safe and very clean.
Went two years ago on Rick Steve's advice. Get a cheap hotel. They're not like cheap hotels here. Most are family owned, quiet and clean. Buy or browse Rick's latest book and pick something based on his recommendations. You won't go wrong.
Take a compass and get a map. The streets go every which way...just like many Euro cities.
