Prague Evenings

I meant to add this to my last post (sorry!). What does everyone think of black light theater? Worth the price, or ?? We have 3 evenings in Prague to fill. We have one booked with a concert at the Belktram (Mozart Museum) and not sure what else to do with the evenings. Any ideas are appreciated! Thank you.

I was in Prague a few years ago and saw a production of Faust at a black light theater - I wasn't that impressed, but some of the people I was with like it. They used recorded music. It was neat to see all the intricate workings with the actors and puppets, but Prague has so many other great things to do, I would fit in an Opera or a dinner concert. Hope this helps.

There are MANY black light theater productions in Prague these days. I went to one in 2004 that was mostly comedy and thought it was great. The theater was located just off the main square on the street leading to the Jewish museums. I hear that current productions vary widely in quality, so I'd only go if you can find a reliable recommendation.

Been there - it really wasn't very interesting.

Evenings in Prague are best for a nice walk, some light shopping, some ice cream or a nice pilsner.

I would stick with a nice stroll and enjoy yourself with a beer at an outside cafe and people watch.

Honestly, I think there are many better options for your evenings. Once you arrive, you'll have no trouble filling your time -- even if you're just wandering through the streets enjoying the city.

Dinner cruise on Vltava River. We liked it. Another evening: Krizik Fountain. It's a singing fountain with colorful lights. For more details google it.

There's also marionette theater (opera), if you're looking more toward that kind of entertainment. Don Giovanni is the primary show; I've been and it's definitely interesting. I still say that, with such limited time in Prague, you'd be better off just enjoying the city instead of being cooped up indoors somewhere, but that's just me. Either way, you'll have a blast. Prague is a great city.

I went to a black light theater a couple of years ago. I liked it at first and found it fascinating. The problem was that it went on too long. So, I would come down on the side of only going if you can get a recommendation for a specific performance. Pam

Thanks everyone. We've decided to leave our two evenings open and see what happens.

If you decide to go, I can recommend "Laterna Magika", specifically; it may be the best black light/multimedia show. Laterna has its own theatre. It really is a Prague experience, like going to the baths in Budapest. We bought the best seats available a couple of days in advance, but all the seats were good. Heard while there that some blacklight shows were erotic or more pedestrian.

My teenage sons and husband actually enjoyed it, which surprised me. Several trams stop in front of the theatre. There was an intermission but we were still out before 10 and off to dinner.

Kerry:

I just got back from Prague last Tuesday, and keeping your night open for strolling and people watching is your best bet. An evening walk across the Charles Bridge with Prague Castle all lit up is a magic evening in my opinion.

Happy travels and cheers,
