Hello everybody. We will be in Prague for 4 days in June. We are planning to spend 2 days in Prague and would like to spend 1 day and night in Cesky Krumlov. The plan is to rent a car on the 3rd day, drive to CK and back the next day to the airport in Prague to fly out. My question is if out flight is at 11:05am 1. when should we start driving in the morning and 2. is this a good idea? are we taking a chance of missing our flight? Thank you in advance for your replies. Eugene.
According to viamichelin.com, driving time from CK to the Prague airport is 2 hrs 36 minutes. I would add at least 2 1/2 hours to this to return a rental car (with a full tank) and catch an international flight. Have a GPS in your car so you don't miss any turns. And yes, you're taking a chance.
Car is much more expensive than public transport. You have to be at the airport 2 hours before your flight that means at 9 am. Prague is infamous for its rush hours traffic jams. Consider at least three hours from C.K. to Prague add 1 hour for return rental car and to lower your chance of missing your flight. Start from C.K. at 5 am. But IMHO car is only justified if you want to stop on your way (for example Konopiste, Tabor, Ceske Budejovice).
Tom and Ilja thank you for your comments. We do not want to take a bus so would taking a taxi (to and from) be an option? At least we will not have to deal with rental car (picking up and returns).
Hi Gene, Is there any way you could re-work your itinerary so that you were in CK, and THEN Prague for the very last few nights of your trip?
After doing some more checking I think we are just going to go to CK for one long day and come back in the evening so we can spend the night at Prague.
Thank you all for your advice. Problem solved onto the next one :) Regards, Eugene.
