Prague bus to Budapest

Has anyone take the bus? I am only considering it because it does not leave as early as the train at 05:39. Are there any major constructions along the way? I will leave in 3 weeks. Also, I am considering purchasing a ticket with the Student Agency. Are there any other companies that you recommend? Thanks in advance.

If this is a Student Agency bus, I can tell you that we had a fine experience with this company a year ago, although this was only from Prague to Cesky Krumlov. Purchased tickets online several weeks in advance with no hassle.

i didn't take this particular route and have taken buses from prague to other cities. the bus barn in prague is pretty big with multiple companies next to each other, and they run buses at different time. so if you know what time you want to take the bus you can buy in advance, or you could show up early to see if other companies have better time you want. they're about the same buses with similar price, no bathroom, but stop every couple of hours for food/water/bathroom. it's about the same price as train and takes about similar time, so you should really look into both.

Larry and David - thank you for sharing your experiences!! Larry, A bus ticket to Budapest is around 23 euros compared to 39 euros (Czech Transport) for a train ticket. Where did you find the train ticket for the same price as the bus ticket? Thanks!

I took this bus and it was a very comfortable ride. No problems whatsoever. It was only 23 euros. It does not drop you off at the bus station though. The station is several blocks away. It drops passenger off at the metro stop called Nepliget. There is not an ATM machine if you go downstairs. I found one nearby but just not directly below where the bus drop you off.

Jennifer - where did that come from that I found a train ticket fr the price of the bus ticket? I think you have advisers mixed up :-) But glad you enjoyed the bus trip. When we were there we walked from near Fisherman's Bastion where we were staying to Nepliget for our bus to Krakow.
A lovely walk.
