Prague and Budapest for someone who can not do heavy walking?

Can Prague and Budapest work for someone who can do light walking work? My mom is a very youthful 82 but can not do hours of walking because she does get tired and can not do up and down hills all day. Is it doable? We will be together.
Thanks, Cj

Pest may work but the Buda side will not. It's very hilly. It was a workout for me at times, and I'm twenty years younger than your mother. Prague is easier because many of the sights are within easy walking distance. Be careful of cabs in Prague, though. Many are rip off artists disguised as cabbies! Have your hotel call the cab for you if you use one, since they will have a relationaship with a cab company that they cabbie will not want to jeopardize just to fleece one tourist. Then, if you find an honest company, keep their card and call for them for the trip back to the hotel. I know you didn't ask this, but Vienna is another good Central European option for someone who isn't up for strenuous walking. It's pretty flat and easy to stroll there, with plenty of nice cafes for resting up between strolls. You might check out the daily itineraries of the Rick Steves tours for the cities you are visiting; they categorize days as light, medium, or strenuous in terms of walking. It might also be worth your while to contact the travel planners at Rick Steves. For a modest fee, they can give you very specific information about matters like walkability and hotels close to major sites.
