Prague airport to hotel

Does anyone have any knowledge of the approx. cost of a taxi from the Prague airport to the Old Town Old Town Hilton, to be specific)? Also, if not a taxi, how complicated is local transport from the airport to the hotel? And from the main rail station to the hotel? Not sure yet if we are coming in by rail or air....hence the many questions. Thank you in advance

Hi, Donna. My info is from a year ago (5/2012). At that time, I used AAATaxi which I arranged online via their website. My records show that I paid 207ck which included a tip going from your approximate Old Town location to the main rail station. AAATaxi quoted me a ballpark price in advance. Their estimate was good even though we incurred some heavy traffic. In addition, there was a street closure that prevented them from getting to us directly, but they reached me via my cell and sent someone to escort us to where they were stopped (we did not pay extra for this.) I highly recommend them and you could msg them via their website and inquire about their current rates to/from the airport and rail station.

Last time (about a year ago) there was a fixed price from the airport to downtown and it was 600 czk. (about $30). I bought a taxi ride voucher at the airport.

Donna We paid 400 Kr for a taxi from the airport to the Old Town last month. This seems about standard although obviously it depends a bit on traffic. Alan

Thank you all. CL, do you know if the same service is offered from the Havlani train station, or is it better to just take the metro?

I don't know about the train station - I know that there are specific taxi companies that are better than others - check the RS guidebook for the latest details.

AAA taxi company (the best one) now serves Hlavni nadrazi (Main Station). Or you can take Metro.

We took an AAA cab from the airport to the Hilton (Atrium). There is an AAA cab desk directly when you come out of the secure area in the airport and they'll quote you a rate and get you a cab at the curb. Turned out to be no hassle at all.

Donna...just returned from Prague on Friday. Picked up a friend at the airport there on Thursday; we took a taxi back to near the train station. Fixed price ticket at the airport was 700CZ; we opted for a metered taxi, basically the same rate. I took a bus out to the airport, ticket purchased on board for 60CZ. The metro was only partially up & running due to the flooding; probably all lines are working now? Easy to take the bus & transfer to the metro to get into town...buy your tickets at the airport counter.

If you don't want to take relatively expensive taxi from the airport you can buy a ticket for 32 crowns and that ticket is valid for 90 minutes after you validate it with a stamper in the bus. (Or you can buy 24 hour pass for 110 crowns or 72 hour pass for 310 crowns ). From the airport you take bus 119 to Dejvicka (end of line), change to Metro, get off at station Mustek where you change to line B (of Metro), go 1 stop to Namesti Republiky (direction Cerny Most) and your hotel is about 20 meters from Metro station. From Main Train Station go 1 stop by Metro to Florenc (direction Letnany), at Florenc change to line B and go 1 stop to Namesti Republiky (direction Zlicin). So for 32 crowns you can get from the airport to your hotel. From Main Train Station buy ticket for 24 crowns, it's valid for 30 minutes. That's enough to get you to Namesti Republiky.

Ah, thank you to everyone for the valuable information. It looks now like we will be coming into Prague on the train...going to Amsterdam first for 5 days and then taking the 'City Lights' to Prague. This info you gave me will help a lot and I do appreciate it.
