How much time should I spend in Prague to see most of the city, and go on one or two day trips?
I had 4 full days in Prague after Vienna (so no jetlag, no airports). I spent one day at Terezin. I took my time to wander and explore, not rushing or trying to cram everything in. I would have liked very much to have at least 2 more days in Prague itself. So I guess I'll have to go back.
I would say one week with 2 day trips so you don't have to rush. Obviously you won't be able to see most of the city, just Old Town, part of New Town and Little Quarters. 3 days without day trips and you have to rush and prioritize.
I found 4 days in Prague perfect for seeing what you need to see there. We were even finished almost everyday by like 2 or 3 with our site seeing. We did not do any side trips. Maybe with an extra day or two added, a side trip could have been doable for us. 4 days is perfect for Prague, seeing it without hustle and bustle.
i spent three nights and three full days coming from budapest. i spent a day on the hill. and two full days split between the old towne and the jewish quarter. i have been almost everywhere in western europe and much of the east, and i am not jewish. but this jewish quarter brought me to my knees and wore me out. it is amazing, it is sad, it is cruel, but it is real and you have to see it. maybe at the anne frank house i cried as much, but not more. it is touching, profound, and inspiring all at once. i wish i had, had more time. the nooks and crannies, and bars and cafes are awesome. don't miss the lennon wall in the lower town. have fun, be safe. give peace a chance.
One week. Edwin
