Port of Piraeus to metro

How for is the metro from the Port of Piraeus? Also would it be better to do a self-guided tour of Athens or spend the money and to a guided walking tour?

Metro terminal is in the port. If you have only little time from cruise ship then I would do guided tour. That way you will see more. With more time than that I would get ideas from a guide book and do a self-guided tour..

If you are arriving on a cruise ship, just be aware that the dock for the cruise ships is a bit away from the metro station. I seem to recall others saying about a mile, maybe a 20-30 min walk. Most opt to take a cab to the metro or possibly a shuttle if available. A self guided tour is fine, just take the metro right up to Monastriki stop and you are near the Plaka and just below the Parthenon and Acropolis. The Arch. Museum is a bit further afield, a cab ride or if you can figure out the bus, that is an option.

Jason, if you're arriving in Piraeus from the islands by ferry the Metro station is very close by to the docks for the Eastern and Western Cyclades islands (Santorini, Naxos, Paros, etc.), within easy walking distance of less than 100 yards. If you're coming in by cruise ship you'll be about 1/2 mile away, so the taxi fare will be nominal. The taxis have meters, so make sure the driver uses it. PIRAEUS MAP Cruise ships dock to the left and below "E10".

I'd suggest you go to CruiseCritic.com and you'll be able to get detailed information about all the ports on your cruise. The metro is a long walk from the port, and unless you have great weather and a lot of time to spare, I would not recommend walking it. You can take a bus (there are several lines that run there, but I can't remember the numbers off the top of my head.) The bus runs from directly across the street for the exit of the port. There will also be hop-on/hop-off bus service (2 companies) that will operate directly from the port andn take you into Athens if you'd like to go that route. It is easy enough to DIY in Athens. Just allow plenty of time to get back to the ship. We accidentally cut it closer than we would have liked earlier this year. The metro doesn't run all that frequently, and then we had to wait a long time for a bus back to the port. We had been waiting with others who decided to walk, and even after waiting an extra 10 minute, we still beat them back to the port.

Hi, The Metro is across the street from Gate 6? maybe 5. That is what I remember. Our boat docked at gate 9. Even with our luggage the walk wasn't far to the metro. A god map will be worth the price once you get of at Athens central area.
