Poland-Is it safe and worth the trip?

we have traveled much through Europe and are always searching for another place to visit. Is Poland worth visiting. This summer my husband and I are considering a trip there. Are we going to have language problems so that travel for the two of us is going to be rough? Will we have problems getting around Warsaw and Krakow without a guide? Is there ar lot of pickpocketting and crime there or is relatively safe?

Have not been to Warsaw, but Krakow is an incredibly beautiful city. The historic center is compact, making it easy to walk to most of the main sights. English was widely spoken at hotels, restaurants and museums. Krakow was very safe when I was there in 2004.

Poland is wonderful and not to be missed. The History - yikes!!! That said the alot of the roads are "a work in progress" and the Soviet era industrial areas are really depressing and many are abandoned. You want to find hard working people look no further. Friendly, outgoing and upbeat...that was my take on the Poles last Spring. Never felt afraid. Pickpockets...no worse than in the heavy tourist sites in Rome. Liked the food etc. and language wasn't any more of a problem than it is say in Spain. Good map, good attitude etc. and if lost ask a young person for help (many speak English...kinda). In other words I loved it.

Krakow and G'Dansk (in the North) are beautiful. I traveled to both in 2007 and highly enjoyed them. I flet completely safe--in fact, people were extremely helpful and accommodating. I haven't been to Warsaw--can't speak to its merits.

See Warsaw.Americans think it's run down but it's the opposite.See the Old Town, it's very beautiful and picturesque. The "New" Town is pretty much the same.Castle Square-very picturesque, you can tour the castle. The Royal Route-it's very beautiful, with statues and old buildings.Great shopping/food.Nowy Swiat (new world)-very beautiful street with designer boutiques and cafes.See the Palace of Arts and Sciences. It's the gothic looking building dominating the skyline. The Warsaw Rising Monument is a powerful place to visit and take a pic or two.Lazienki Park is a must see with the Palace on the Water and historical buildings/monuments.You can ride a gondola on the lake and it has an amphitheater.Peacocks roam freely there in the summer. Also try the beautiful Palace Wilanow just outside the city center.Warsaw is a modern and happening European Capital.
Poland over all is one of the safest countries in Europe and very pro American. It's funny how they don't know that.

Back to Warsaw for a sec. It's a great Polish capital. It's the most cosmopolitan and modern. Trains are fine and the subway is nicer than anything in America. Many Poles resent Warsaw residents because they're considered stuck up but first time travellers love it. Polish people can be weird like that. But I loved Warsaw so you must see it.Paris has ugly neighborhoods too but you don't hear them advertising it do you? lol

We spent 5 weeks there in 2006 and cannot say enough good about Poland. It is wonderful in many ways and in many places and its people are great. Poland has the added attraction of being MUCH cheaper than Western Europe

Just came back from my first European trip with two days in Krakow with a trip to Aushwitz and of all the cities I saw, I would say Krakow is one of the few ones I would like to see again. The city is beautiful and so much history and not a single problem with the language. The main square was lively and I could have easily spent 5 days here.

Ditto, ditto, ditto. Didn't visit Warsaw but Krakow was a hoot. English widely spoken, old town Krakow very neat and clean, Salt Mine, Castle, Auschwitz, Cloth Market, etc., etc., very worthwhile. Would love to go back. Great city, great people, great value.
