To get to Santorini, you can either fly there from Athens or take a ferry. You can find information on flights on kayak.com, and you can find ferry schedules at http://www.gtp.gr/Default.asp? Where you go really depends on what you want. Santorini is beautiful, but expensive and touristy. Mykonos is known for partying. I personally really enjoyed Milos, which was quieter and more laid back than Athens and Santorini where I visited. :) Here are my photos from there. ;) http://seattleflyerguy.blogspot.com/2011/06/greece-5-shots-from-santorini-milos-and.html

Ritu, If you're going to Santorini directly after arrival at ATH, flying would be best solution since you'll be at the airport anyway. Have a look at Aegean Airlines for flights. For travel to Myknonos, you could either travel by Ferry or take a flight back to Athens and then on to Mykonos via Olympic Air. I've found that Santorini can be busy even in September, so I'd highly recommend pre-booking your accommodations there and on Mykonos. You might find it very helpful to have a look at This Excellent Website. I used one of the Greek Travel agencies mentioned on the website (Fantasy Travel) to make Hotel and transportation arrangements to the islands, and found their service to be excellent. Happy travels!

When we planned going to Greece in 2010, we only had a choice between Mykonos and Santorini and from what I gathered from message boards and friends, what was suitable for us was Santorini which we did not regret. In Santorini, we stayed at Hotel Anemomilos in Oia which also had a wonderful family owned restaurant. We took the local bus to Fira (Thira), the capital, when we wished to and the bus stop was right in front of the hotel and to the bus depot of the capital. From Fira we took buses to other places like Kamari for the black beach and in Kamari, to the ancient city of Thira for 10 euros/person in a van from the tourist office. It is quite a hike going up the staging area on the mountain before you reach the ancient city so the van was great and then you had to hike/climb to the ruins itself-really worth the effort and 4 euros to get up there. Our stay in Oia afforded us the most beautiful sunset experience since it is just a walk away from our hotel.

Ritu - Last summer, we were in Greece. We landed at Athens, spent a few days there and then took a ferry to Mykonos, and then onwards to santorini a few days later. The connections are good and if you book in advance, the tickets are cheap as well. But then, you do have options to fly to both Mykonos and Santorini from Athens. Do look up the ferry schedules on www.greekferries.com. I hope this helps.

I have been to Greece twice for 8 days. I went in April so I didn't go to any islands. I rented a van in Athens and then drove to (in this order): Delphi, Olympia, Bassae, Napflio (2 days with side trips to Mycaenae and Epidaurus), Suonion and back to Athens for 3 days.
