Places to stay in Krakow and Warsaw

I am a solo traveler, senior citizen. My head is spinning with all the places to stay in either city. I would like a B&B in a quiet location walking distance to the old city. Please don't laugh, but I don't want to pay over 50 euro per night. I don't care if it is a hotel or apartment (but not a hostel.) as long as it is recommended. Can you please make a recommendation?
I will be doing some posting here as this is just the first part of my journey. Thank you in advance for any help you can provide>

I stayed at the Globtrotter (per referral here) in Krakow and it was very reasonable. I shared a room with others so I don't know what the single room was, but there are lots of cheap places there. It was right in the center of the action and although a bit dowdy and no breakfast, it was fine.

Hi, I can recommend Hotel Europejsk where I stayed a few nights in 2001...very satisfactory with a good restaurant. It's located immediately to the left as you exit Krakow main train station. It's more than what you may want to pay but not paying more than 50 Euro for a single in a hotel will be difficult in Krakow.

I would also recommend the Globtroter Guest House, but .... Have you noticed the other posts warning about crowds, prices, etc. during Euro2012 in Poland?
