There are 3 of us staying in or around Dubrovnik or Split Can anyone suggest inexpensive places to stay We will have a car Also since this is our first time what are some fun and unique places to go Thinking of Hvar Korcula maybe Trogir We'll only be in Croatia for 3-4 days Any hotels near the Dubrovnik airport???

With only 3-4 days, I'd suggest either Split or Dubrovnik but not both. Dubrovnik offers more options with a car. Korcula (drive to Orebic and short ferry ride), Mostar (Bosnia) and Kotor (Montenegro) are all easy day trip options. Just be sure your rental company allows you to take the car out of Croatia. From Split, you could drive to Plitvice and Trogir or day trip by catamaran to Hvar. Most places in Dubrovnik are moderately expensive. I stayed at Jadranka and Milan Benussi sobe and would highly recommend it, but you may be able to find a good rate at one of the large hotels in the Lapad area. There are also some large hotels south of Dubrovnik, which is closer to the airport. No place you stay will be a long drive to the airport. In Split, Base Rooms is very nice and not terribly expensive, but I would avoid it on Friday and Saturday nights when a large group of teenagers gathers on the steps of the adjacent temple and is quite noisy until about midnight.
