Places to stay in Budapest in mid July

We will be in Budapest in mid July...anyone have any accommodation suggestions? I've heard of the Gerloczy Hotel...anyone recommend it? Is air-conditioning necessary?

Yes! Take a room with air conditioning just in case you get another heat wave like last July. Temperatures were 40 degrees C. and didn't cool down much at night. We enjoyed going to the HOT thermal baths just to COOL down during the day!!! It was fun trying to find different ways of staying cool during the day while enjoying the people and sights of Budapest.

I was miserably hot in June 2006 in Budapest (the room only had two fans, no A/C). If you can afford it, go for the air-conditioning!

We stayed at the Zara boutique hotel, wonderful location, steps from the Market and bridge across the river to the Gellert Baths...Multi lingual staff, very helpful!!

We came back not too long ago from Budapest, I wrote a report about our trip here, just I couldn't find it now. We stayed at the superchargedroom, you can google it and that's the first one coming up, I can highly recommend it, as we got a spacious big room in the downtown and it was cheap, I'm not sure how much we paid, but something like 20 Euros each. Staying with a local and getting his knowledge about the city was priceless. Also I believe he has air condition, even though I'm not sure as it wasn't warm when we were there, so there was no need to turn it on. I also read that it's very hot in the summer, and on the Pest side there's not too much green area. But you can cool down in the spas. We haven't had the time to try all of them, as I think there's about 8-10 bathhouses in the city. I hope I helped, but if you could fine my other post there you can find more tips.
