I will be arriving in Piraeus at 7 AM by crusie ship and will be there for 12 hours. Has anyone taken the metro from Piraeus to Athens? How often does it runs especially in the late afternoon when going back to the ship? How long does the trip to Athens take and how much does a roundtrip ticket cost? Any other information you can share will be helpful.
The Metro is fast, about 20 minutes to the Monastiraki station which is close to the Plaka and Parthenon. The fare is about 1 euro each way. The metro runs every 20 minutes or so between 5:30 am and midnight.
What about taking the metro from Athens to Piraeus for the boat to Aegina or the other Saronic Gulf islands? Is there a bus to the ferry terminal from the metro in Piraeus? There should be. Thanks!

The ferries to the Saronic Islands depart from Port Gate ?8. The Metro Station is between Gates 5 & 6.
The only problem can be getting from the ship to the Metro station (and back); it can be a long walk depending on where you dock. The cruise ship terminal to the Metro is about 3 KM or so and the taxis aren't too keen on taking you such a short distance-they're looking for the bigger fares into Athens. Lee is correct: €1 and about 20 minutes to Monastiraki by Metro.
And, Lesley, most of the ferries dock a lot closer to the Metro, some right across the street-take the elevated walkway across and you're nearly there.
Thank you all for your replies.
