Piraeus Hotel Recommendation

My family and I are arriving in Piraeus the day before we leave Greece. Does anyone have any Piraeus hotel recommendations?

Thanks,
Paul

Is there a particular reason why you want to stay in Piraeus instead of Athens?

Thanks for the responses.

Lee, we're already going to spend several days in Athens so we thought we spend the afternoon in Piraeus, find a hotel in the area and then catch the Metro to the airport the following day.

I only ask because Piraeus doesn't have much appeal as a tourist destination. It's a bit dingy and rough.

FYI-There's also an airport express bus (#96) that will take you from Piraeus to the airport for 3.2 euro each.

If you think you might like to stay someplace quiet for your last day consider the St. Thomas B&B out near the airport. They offer free shuttle service to and from the airport between 8 AM and 10 PM.

Paul, listen to the vets; they know. Piraeus is NO place to stay, no place for a family. And your metro plan won't work anyway unless the date in question is before July 1.

After that the airport metro extension is out of service -- and you will have to take the 24/7 EXPRESS BUS x95 from Syntagma Square... so why not get a hotel near there? Try Hotel Central, Hotel Arethusa, Hotel Metropolis, Hotel Pan, Hotel Cypria, none of them special but all safe & all within 2-3 blocks of the airport bus.

Thanks for everyone's input and hotel recommendations. Since we haven't heard any compelling reasons to stay in Piraeus, we've decided to head back to Athens.

Regarding the Athens Metro closure, I sent an email to Attiko Metro asking about this and here is the response I received

"The Line 3 interruption is expected to take place at the end of Summer 2008. However, passengers will be able to use the Suburban Railway Network from the Airport to city centre and vice versa.
Moreover, alternative ways of transport will be offered at the time of the disruption."

I guess if we stay near Syntagma, we'll be OK if the Metro is or isn't working.

Thanks, Paul

Understand that the Suburban Railway station isn't an easy walk from Syntagma. But you do have the option of the Airport Express Bus #95, the one Jan mentioned, which leaves from alongside Syntagma Square every half-hour, 24/7. It costs 3.2 euro each. Buy your ticket from the driver and validate in the machine inside. There's plenty of storage space for your bags. The trip takes between 45 minutes and 1.25 hours unless you hit heavy rush-hour traffic.
