I am looking to travel to pecica and Barghis Roumania. I have contacted travel people but don't feel comfortable with the tours and at this time want to focus on these two areas. My grandparents were from there. At some point in the future I would like to stay and do volunteer work there. I've gotten on line, Pecica is larger and I have figured out google translate but I'm nervous about just going there with my daughters and sister. I'm not sure who to trust! Help Have been working on the languange as well. JUDY

You can certainly travel to Romania with your family even without using a tour company (in fact most tourists visit the country on their own). There are no significant safety problems and getting around is relatively easy if you do a bit of advanced planning. If you decided to start with Pecica the most direct way to get there is to fly to Timisoara (for instance Salt Lake City > Chicago > Munich > Timisoara), it's about two hours away from Pecica by train or bus (via Arad). After you're done visiting Pecica get back to Arad, catch a train to Sibiu then a local bus towards Barghis (at least 5 buses per day).
