Passport problem

I leave for Eastern Europe on Sept. 4th. I will be visiting Germany, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Austria, and Czech Republic. My passport has only 3 blank pages and it expires Jan 8, 2008. Do I have a problem? Please say NO! Thank you, Debbe

I don't think you do. But you may want to verify here. Have fun on your trip. I wish I had that problem.

In most countries your passport has to have
3 mos validity from date of departure from the

country.
CR has some rules on medical insurance
and patriation insurance. I would contact
the consulate general for your area in these
countries.

Given the number of countries that scan the passport as opposed to stamping, you should be OK in that respect. I think they can also stamp or provide you with an alternate document to show entry/exit. Your bigger issue may be that you do not have 6 months left on your passport, but as long as you have solid proof of your return (itinerary, tickets, etc.) then just be prepared to be questioned about it.

You shouldn't have any problems with the pages, but may have one problem with the expiration date. Most countries in Europe require that your passport have 3 months of validity left. There are exceptions:

Czech Republic does require 6 months validity.(http://tinyurl.com/gsnq9).
Hungry requires 3 months (http://tinyurl.com/38dqo4)
Slovakia requires 3 months (http://tinyurl.com/2toq7m)
Poland is 3 months (http://tinyurl.com/2ok6ga)
Germany has no limit (http://tinyurl.com/2nckg5).
I wasn't able to determine Austria's limit from their embassy web site, but it's a safe bet it is 3 months.

So it looks like you will have problems entering the Czech Republic. It's a gamble, but Immigrations agents do have the discretion to make exceptions, as long as you show them you have a return ticket back to the US they may look the other way. But to be on the safe side, you may want to rearrange your travels.

Number of blank pages pose no problem compared with that EXPIRATION DATE!!! Yikes.

It think the answer is "NO". You can always call the passport office and plead for a renewal by the 4th...good luck because this IS a holiday weekend.

I was in and out of 4 countries this month and my passport was only stamped once. If push comes to shove, let your friend do a day trip to Prague. Easy to do out of Vienna.

call the embassy for those contries - i thought it was 6 mon left... pages - probly not a problem as no one stamps... but you can also call US passport and they can ADD pages... but expir is worth calling each country and asking...

The URL links I provided in my reply go directly to the website of each county's embassy in Washington DC. That's where I got the expiration info.

HI, Debbie, I called the consulate general in
Los Angeles and the girl said pp has to be valid
for 90 days. It would depend what date you
for going to be there. I think you should call
and she can tell you exactly.
Border control can decide to let you in since you
have return tickets, etc. Ask her about this.

phone # 310-473-0889. She can also tell you
about the blank pages.
Good Luck

Your passport should not be due to expire in order to be able to travel in those countries within 6 months of your completion of your trip. I think that means you need to renew so you do not have a problem. Yes, it is 6 months

I have to disagree with you Denise. I don't
know about Slovakia, but the rest of them only
need 3 months.

I have never heard of a passport office needing to know about relatives. Were you born in the USA? Seems very odd. I would get in the car and drive to the nearest passport office and find out what is going on, do not send more money. This sounds very fishy.
