I have read mixed reviews about Pamukkale. Some say that it is fabulous and not to be missed, others that it is over-rated. My wife and I and our two teenagers will be spending about 20 days in Turkey this summer. We will start our visit in Selcuk before moving to the southern coastal area around Kas and Cirali, then on to Capadoccia and finally Istanbul. We are debating whether to drive directly from Selcuk to Kas or whether to go to Pamukkale where we would spend one night before driving from there to the coast. Any thoughts?
I'd go straight down the road toward Mugla, making deviations only to the west for scenery. Pamukkale is worth looking at only if you're passing through; certainly not an overnight stop. Hotsprings is hotsprings; spas is spas.
I agree as well! I'd allocate time that you might have spent in Pamukkale to Cappadocia.
I agree with Ed. We spent about an hour at Pamukkale and then took off, a bit deflated.
IMHO, most interesting part of Pamukkale is the
necropolis that spills down the hillside.
Since the water feeding the pools was diverted (from
an earthquake I believe) the pools are more puddles
and not as pristine white as they are in the tourist
posters.
