Overnight train Ankara to Istanbul

I was on the Turkey Travel Planner site that so many people have recommended. Lots of good info. I read the info about booking a sleeper compartment on the Ankara to Istanbul overnight train. It says it's basically impossible to make an online reservation. However, it's suggested to reserve a few days (at least) in advance. Hmmm. I searched around the Internet and can't find any type of online booking site. From what I understand, I can buy a ticket from Turkish State Railways station or post office once in Turkey. My concern is that I will be in Turkey only 2 full days and then will need to get on this overnight train to Istanbul (in early September) and don't want to run the risk of not getting a spot on the train on the day/night I want!!! Suggestions?

Why not go online and book through a Turkish travel agency? I'm pretty sure that Turista travel on Divan Yolu will do it on their website. They definitely can book train tickets in person, and I would imagine they can do it for you on their website, too.

Hi Gokhan -Thanks for the reply. So if I don't understand Turkish, I am probably out of luck for purchasing tickets online at that website right? Any suggestions you have for me? The facts: I am in the United States. On August 31 i will arrive (from Ireland) via flight to Kayseri and stay in Goreme for 2 days. I then need to get the overnight train from Ankara to Istanbul. THANKS

Looks like the Turkish State Railway lets you order online now, and they now have an English language button you can click to make your transaction in English. That's new since the last time I traveled by train in Turkey. Let us know if you are able to book that way.
