Other towns in Czech Republic

We are going to be in Krakow, Prague and Berlin for 17 days in May. We'll do daytrip to Auschwitz from Krakow. Between Krakow and Prague we want to stay in a couple other Czech towns...? maybe Olomouc, Trebic, Telc. thoughts on these towns?? Where have you stayed? We'll be going by bus or train. I'd appreciate any feedback. Thanks

I suggest Kutna Hora and Olomouc. Olomouc is on main rail line between Krakow and Prague and Kutna Hora is only about 12 kilometres from the main rail line. Trebic and Telc would be more time consuming to get to by public transport. In Kutna Hora we stayed in hotel Garni and liked it. In Olomouc we didn't stay overnight. Very good source of information about these and other towns is Rick Steves book: Prague & the Czech Republic.

OK, everyone agrees. Chesky Krumlov is pretty darned amazing. It is like a miniature Prague. Doesn't make any difference which direction you look, it is photogenic. Next best...Telc. A triangular square enclosed by burger houses. Great duck meals in the corner hotel. Go punting on the carp ponds. Olomouc is a college town. A bow tie square, as in there are two. Looks like a college town, feels like a college town. Politicka in Moravia is a 'German' unlike anything else in Czech Republic. Mikolov, in southern Czech republic, 36 miles from Vienna. Very different feel once again and in wine country.

My wife and I were in the Czech Republic for 2 weeks in October 2009. Besides Prague we did visit Olomouc. Yes, it is a college town but they have the best of the two Astronomical Clocks in the Republix, the other is in Prague. Several very nice churches and the pubs at night were great. Check with www.pathfinders.cz for a local guide, she was very good.

Been all over CZ since I'm married to one....It all depends on how many days you will be spending in CZ on what to see...If going by only bus or train, I would say Cesky Krumlov is the #1 pick for an overnighter....Olomouc is a good choice for overnighter too...Kutna Hora is good for a day trip....Telc, Trebon, Trebic is best done if you have a car & can be included with Cesky Krumlov and Hluboka....stay at least 1 night in Cesky Krumlov and then 1 night in Trebon (Penzion Pohadka is a good choice) for a peat bath & message Bertiny Lázne....I use Czechocar CS Car Rental & usually pick up from the Congress Center 5. kvìtna 65, Prague 4 location for daytrips.

Actually Mikulov is in the wine country of Moravia. Bohemia is the western part of Czech Republic. Valtice and Lednice are nearby with beautiful chateau parks. In Lednice there is also a tropical green house and minaret. More about what to see there is in Rick Steves book: Prague and the Czech Republic. In Valtice chateau there is a medieval wine cellar where you can sample 100 best wines in the Czech Republic. Especially the whites are excellent. In the chateau there is a hotel Hubertus so from the cellar you can just walk, no driving necessary after tasting. Find more about it: www.salonvin.cz
