Arriving in Athens Sat. 4/14/12 mid afternoon, staying in a hotel in the Makrigianni neighborhood. Interested in attending the church service which we understand starts at 11 PM at the cathedral. Is it safe to walk there at that hour of the night? Are there Easter Sunday services during the day?

I think it will be perfectly safe to attend the church service. I will be attending service on top of Mt. Lycabettus at Saint George's chapel. The last time I attended this Easter service I had an amazing view of the candlelight processions leaving all of the other cathedrals in Athens. Plus, most Greeks who go to the service will be heading out to dinner afterwards as they have been fasting for several weeks. Enjoy!
