Hotel Medvidku:

From the looks of the website, it appears they've upgraded themselves from a pension to a hotel since my visit a few years ago.

There's also a typical beerhall type restaurant on the first floor.

We stayed at the U Tri Bubnu (At the Three Drums)just off the square. Decent breakfast and I think all rooms have their own bathroom. Only downside - no elevator and the stairs get narrower as you ascend. We were in a family room in the attic which was enormous, but a long climb!

We were in Prague last September and stayed at Kafkas Castle. It was very average but the location was top notch and we could walk to all the major sites. There was a Tesco supermarket and Metro directly opposite and a great pizza place next door.It cost 47.43 Euro a night for a double room with private ensuite and when we arrived the owner gave us all sorts of useful info about Prague.

I just booked a room at http://castlesteps.com/rooms.htm It's located by the St. Charles Bridge, the rates are very reasonable and it has gotten good reviews every place I've checked.

Another place we considered was http://hotelanna.cz/en (it's listed on RS). It is located in the Vinohrady district, which is not as centrally located, but supposedly is close to public transport.

I like Hotel Residence Retezova, a few winding blocks from the Old Town. We even got upgraded from the super small loft room to a 2 story 1 bed room with awesome patio, without even asking for free. I went in the winter so I got the room for 104 euro, not sure what the prices would be another time.

I stayed at the hotel Certovka (now I believe it may be called Richmond Certovka) a few years back and loved it.: http://www.certovka.cz/?lang=en&1279294767

My room was very large, great bed and bathroom, and breakfast was included. The best part though was that my window directly overlooked the Charles Bridge, and it took less than a minute to reach the bridge from the hotel door.

Not sure what "mid priced" means in Prague anymore, but I'd check the place out. If it is in your budget, I definitely recommend it.

Castle Steps was great -- we stayed there in June 2009 for 7 nights and received wonderful service.

I'm glad to hear that about Castle Steps - we've booked a room there in early September and it looks very nice!

Thanks everyone for your responses. WE are back from our trip to Prague, Viena, and Salzburg. I recommend all three locations. WE stayed at the Hotel Antik 2 min walk to the Astronomical tower in Old Town. Highly recommend this hotel. Very affordable, great service, wonderful room with space, a roof balcony, and A/C (needed at 100 degrees - heatwave, nice breakfast included.

Thank you all for all of your help - it's is nice to have this community to draw information and experiences with. Shelly
