Odessa to Bacau??

Hi,
I'm currently planning a trek from Asia through Europe and am trying to figure out the best way to get from Odessa, Ukraine to Bacau, Romania. I looked up flights and it seems like I would have to take 3 flights, fly way out of the way and spend about 3 days in flight to get there... Surely there must be a train/bus/something that would be more efficient and probably less expensive?

If anyone can help me, I'd greatly appreciate the advice!
Thanks!

You can fly with just one plane change using Carpatair (they are based out of Timisoara) and fly to both Odessa and Bacau based on their route map.

The cheap option will probably be a bus to Chisinau in Moldova (about 6 hrs based on previous research - and avoiding the breakaway part of Trans-Dniester), Chisinau to Iasi (bus, car, etc) and Iasi to Bacau (this seems to be about 3 hrs per the DB website).

I strongly recommend you do more research on the lonely planet website (thorn tree forum) to figure out the train/bus connections if flying is too expensive. I don't think that train is a good option from Odessa to either Chisinau or Bucharest since it has to avoid Trans-Dniester and hence takes a very long time.

Hope this helps
