We will be on a rivercruise with Vantage feom October 9, 2009 to October 20th, 2009 and finishing the morning of October 21, 2009 in Bucharest at the Intercontinental. We are planning a driving trip that encompasses 5 days and returning to Bucharest on the 25th of October with flying home the morning of the 26th.
Any itinerary suggestions and good hotel or inn recommendations.
My general thoughts are Brasov, possibly up to Cluj and then to Timisoara. Perhaps this is too much.

A Bucharest-Brasov-Cluj-Timisoara route wouldn't be too much if you'll have a car (Brasov to Cluj is a 4-6 hours drive and Cluj to Timisoara is 5-7 hours drive), but maybe it would be better just to focus mostly on the sites in southern Transylvania (around the cities of Brasov and Sibiu), for instance like this:
Day 1: drive from Bucharest to Brasov (~3 hours; the last part of the trip is a beautiful drive through the Carpathian mountains), stop along the way in Sinaia to see the Peles castle, get to Brasov, check into a hotel, visit some of the city;
Days 2-3:
-visit more of Brasov;
-drive to Bran (half hour away from Brasov) to see Dracula's :-)) castle, visiting Rasnov and its fortress along the way;
-visit some of the old German Saxon villages around Brasov to see their fortified churches;
-go to Sighisoara (~2 hours away from Brasov), it's one of the last inhabited medieval citadels in Europe;
Days 4-5:
-drive from Brasov to Sibiu (2-4 hours), possibly visiting some of the other German Saxon villages located between them;
-visit Sibiu and its surrounding area;
-drive back from Sibiu to Bucharest (4-6 hours; with a slight detour you could also visit the Horezu monastery);
