No questions here about Serbia - no one goes there?

There are two options: either almost no one goes there or people know so much about Serbia they don't need to ask. My educated guess is that the first option is correct.

Your logic is irrefutable. We went to Croatia last year, and i considered going to a small town near Novi Sad where my grandfather was born. I did not do so, partially because I think that there are still those in Serbia who remember the bombing in 1995, which is pretty recent. Plus most car rental firms require extra steps to go there and probably a theft surcharge.

I think for many North Americans (which this board caters to) Serbia does have both some perceived and real barriers to travel. Added is that most are here as a result of Ricks series of books, using them as planning tools for a trip. Serbia is not covered at this time, so few questions, and probably there would be few answers.

Hi Paul, I am sorry to hear that you did not go to visit your grandfather's birthplace near Novi Sad, fearing that Serbs would not be friendly. It is just not true. My husband is an American and goes to Novi Sad and Srbobran (my birthplace near Novi Sad) every year since 2004. He never ever had any bad experiences, and we travel a lot while spending our vacations there. He loves it there, and thinks that Serbs are exceptionally friendly and hospitable. Not to mention the food and all the places worth visiting, from mountains to lakes etc....If you ever decide to go to Serbia, I would be happy to help you with advice, suggestions, tips etc.... Go to www.tripadvisor.com, type in "Serbia forum" in the search box, and there are 44 pages of discussions about Serbia. Ricksteves.com discussion categories are usually too large (to the east) and other travel boards are much better because they are specific about each country or city.
