night trains concern

let me ask a totally stupid night train question.... and please dont laugh at me...
I am considering a night train from budapest to prague.... it arrives at 3:09 am...

uhhh.... do they make you leave the train at that time or can you sleep in till 7 or 8?

I like night trains but dont want to be standing at a station at 3:00 in the morning!
thanks for your help...

The Budapest to Prague night train you're looking at, is really the Budapest to Berlin night train, it simply makes a stop in Prague on the way to Berlin. So you will have to exit the train as soon as it arrives in Prague.

thank you..... I like to think I am knowledgeable about reading train schedules.. but that it was.... budapest to berlin was not apparent when I searched DB.
could you suggest how I could have figured that out so I can avoid other nasty arrivals? thanks!

You're welcome. When the DB site lists the available trains, simply click on the link next to the train number (ex. EN1234), and you will get a listing of the train's entire route.

You will be arriving at the Praha-Holesovice station. I would check to see how safe it would be arriving that time of the morning.

We got off at a station in the middle of day and it was spooky at that time of the day. Had to walk through an underground walkway.

IMO, I would arrive later in the day. As the previous poster said, it was spooky enough during the day yet alone 3:00 a.m. What are you going to be able to do when you arrive at that time of morning anyway? Will the public transportation around the city be operating or will you have to stay in the train station until it does? If you do decide to arrive at 3 a.m., be careful and be aware of your surroundings. For my daughter and I, Prague was strange and a bit scarey.

I just left Prague and you can catch a night tram, as Metro shuts down from 12-5 am. If your hostel or hotel is close walking distance fine if not come in at 5-8 am FWIW.

I agree Praha-Holesovice is pretty sketchy even during the middle of the day. I would think arriving there at 3AM after getting booted off a train while you were asleep would be quite the experience.

Might I suggest finding a cheap airline and just flying?

I have been at the train station a few times, most during the day and one time around 9 pm, and don't see how anyone can find it scary and I was by myself. I walked through the park that was in front of the train station and there were a few drunk people, but they left you alone. It's nice that the metro stop is right in the station, so you could avoid the park if you really wanted to. It was just another train station to me, no different then the others around Europe.
