Nice inexpensive places to stay in Sorrento and Santorini

We'll be going to Sorrento and Santorini in April and are looking for places that won't strain our already strained dollar. Like around $100/night... We'd like to stay in Oi in Santorini near the edge of the caldera. Can anyone suggest any place? Thanks.--Jim

Check the Delfini Hotel, Stelios Rooms, Aspa Villas, Aris Caves and Old Oia Houses.

We stayed in Sorrento in 2006 at the portside hotel: Hotel Il Faro with a room facing the sea. it had the disadvantage of requiring a steep walk up to town or a 1E trip via bus, VERY exciting as the road is steep and not really big enough for the bus. We tended to ride up and walk back. Advantages were the sea view, convenience to the old city and the good exercise going home after a lovely meal-ha! We fell in love with Sorrento....make sure you visit the old lemon grove L'Agruminato. Try one of their digestives for a marvelous taste of nature.

I forgot to mention I stayed on Santorini and I think you'll be hard pressed to find a caldera place for the price you mentioned. We made the mistake of taking a place from a vendor at the port based on the reasonable cost. It was a glorious place with a pool, lovely room overlooking the Med, terrific service by the guy who picked us up at the port and who delivered us to the airport when we left (no charge) absolutely beautiful in every way. BUT, it was at the end of the runway and the airport noise was deafening! I couldn't believe it. If you find the place you really like, with the view you want, pay the price and scrimp somewhere else. Santorini is all about the view. Sadly you can't get into the archeological dig at Akrotiri anymore since a tourist was killed from falling ruins. The wineries are well worth a tour, and of course, the red and black beaches are worth visiting even if you aren't a sun worshipper (I'm not but I was spellbound).

Hi Jim
We have been to both. In Sorrento we loved Hotel Il Nido. It is an excellent hotel, reasonably priced with beautiful view of the Bay and Mount Vesuvius. They provide free pick up and drop off as well as shuttle trips into town in the evenings. Highly recommend it.
On Santorini, instead of Thera or Oia, we stayed in Kameri at Hotel Sunshine. Initially before we arrived we were disappointed not to be in either of the towns but once we got there we found it an excellent choice.
Buses to Oia and Thers are convenient, so we would tour those towns during the day and return after sunset to our relaxing hotel.
It is a family run establishment. There is a beautiful black sand beach opposite the hotel that we would use in the mornings before heading into town. Also there is a beautiful boardwalk to stroll at night and the restaurants are cheaper than in the towns.

An excellent restaurant in OIA and one of the best we ate in is called Restaurant Blue Sky.
