Check with the tourist office at the entrance to Lake Bohinj. There are a number of good hikes that originate from Bohinj and wind up to Mt. Triglav. Some are day hikes, those that end at Mt. Triglav require overnight stays in a mountain hut. Whichever you choose, the staff at the Lake Bohinj entrance is very helpful and should be able to provide you with more details. Also, the hike to Sivaca Waterfall, near Lake Bohinj, is a fairly easy and relatively short starter hike.

Additionally, as others have mentioned, there is great hiking around Lake Bled, particularly, the hike up to Vintar Gorge. Both Lake Bled and Lake Bohinj are great starting points for hiking in Triglav National Park, which is stunningly beautiful.

You can experience the Julian Alps from a different point of view by driving the Vrsic Pass, a 40 minute drive through numerous switchbacks and beautiful mountain scenery. Heading south on the Vrsic Pass, will dump you in the Soca Valley - another great place for hiking. If the weather is bad, take some time to visit the fascinating Kobarid Museum, in the little town of Kobarid. The museum tells the story of the Battle of Kobarid - one of the fiercest battles in WWI.

Triglav National Park and the Soca Valley should provide you with plenty of hiking to fill your 4 days in the Julian Alps, but if you venture into Central Slovenia, check out Logarska Dolina - it's not the Julian Alps, but there are some pretty scenic hikes in the area.

Slovenia, one of my favorite countries, is an absolute jewel. The country is a hiker's paradise. For lodgings, you may want to consider staying near Bohinj or Bled. For a better value, consider Naklo, Radovlijca, or Kranj. Good Luck and Happ Travels!
