So we have finalized our flight and looking at finalizing the hotels- this is a little bit last minute- but better late to travel and see Central europe than never, right!:) We are leaving end of August for Prague So we are looking at the following trip- Day .5 - Half day- Prague (landing into Prague at 1:30 pm) Day 1- Prague Day 2- Prague Day 3- Prague Day 4- Not sure if we should do a day trip from Prague to Cesky or leave for Cesky and stay there for a night? Any advice here? Is it easy to get from Cesky to Budapest Day 5- What should we do here? Day 6- Budapest Day 7- Danube bend day trip Day 8- Budapest Day 9- Budapest Any advice you can give for Day 4 and Day 5? we would like for it not to be too busy? but would like to see some countryside in and around Prague?
Also should we stay in Prague or do day trips? How easy are day trips from Prague? How easy is it to get from Prague to southern Moravia? Thanks so much!
First Half of the Answer If you have seen my posts you know I am rather fond of Budapest but I've spent time in Prague as well. Prague should be seen, especially the Jewish district. So as just one guy's opinion here is my rework of your schedule: Day .5 - Half day- Prague (landing into Prague at 1:30 pm) (James: the Hotel Ventana was one of the nicest hotels we have ever stayed in and the location is about as perfect for Prague as you can get.) Day 1- Prague Day 2- Prague (James: I would go to Cesky Krumlov and check into the Hotel Dvorak. Get the president suite – if they still call I that – and you will get the most amazing balcony overlooking the river and the castle. If possible drive down as there are a couple of good castles along the way. See Karlstejn Castle going down and Zvikov Castle coming back. This way you get to see some of the countryside and it is beautiful.) Day 3- Prague (James: Afternoon return to Prague. We do this sort of split city trip all the time. The hotels will hold your luggage until you get back. Maybe a nice dinner and a concert) Day 4- Not sure if we should do a day trip from Prague to Cesky or leave for Cesky and stay there for a night? Any advice here? Is it easy to get from Cesky to Budapest
(James: In Prague)
Second Half of Answer Day 5- What should we do here? (James: Take a late morning flight to Budapest. Yes fly; its just too long and uninteresting a train trip for my taste. But each to their own. Either way plane or train, just get to Budapest. You should make Budapest by mid-afternoon and if you want write and I will give you all sorts of ideas. Write and I can give you some Hotel ideas. You can really shape the place you stay around your interests so it's not so easy as to just say one name or another). Day 6- Budapest (James: write if you need suggestions) Day 7- Danube bend day trip (James: Stay in Budapest and get localized) Day 8- Budapest (James: today or any day that you are in Budapest take a Half Bend Trip. Just take the local commuter train to Szentendre (about 30 minutes) and enjoy the little artsy community. Then take the afternoon river taxi back. Entering Budapest on the river is pretty special). Day 9- Budapest
(James: You have the whole day in Budapest? If so perfect. Write if you need suggestions) How easy is it to get from Prague to southern Moravia? (James: I love your bravery!!)
