Need Advice on where to visit besides Istanbul ,

My wife,my son and myself are planning on a trip to Turkey for 9 Days. We plan on five days in Istanbul. We looked at cities located close to airports and selected Atalya, Samsun, Kayseri, and Selcuk. We are in our seventies and son is in his fifties. We prefer cities close to airports. We Need advice from others who may have visited these or other cities of interest. Your input is greatly appreciated.

If you stay in Selcuk you can take advantage of its close proximity to the most amazing archaeological site, Ephesus, which is one of the very important world heritage sites in the Mediterranean area. I enthusiastically recommend that you include a visit there to your itinerary.

I agree with Lee about Selcuk--it's perfect for what you've described. We flew from Istanbul to Izmir on AtlasJet. It was an inexpensive flight. From Izmir you can either rent a car or take a taxi to Selcuk (about 60 US dollars when we were there 2 years ago.) We stayed at Hotel Bella and they took care of everything transporting us to Ephesus and other sites of interest in the area. Two or three nights would be a good amount of time for Selcuk.
