National Archeological Museum in Athens

Where is it located in relation to any of the following:

Pireaus cruiseport

Acropolis

Constitution Square (Syntagma)

Is it worthwhile to visit the museum on my own, or is a guide a must?

I really want to avoid a shore excursion for this.

Thanks.

It's a magnificent museum and I'm remembering it from 30 years distant. My of the artifacts from all over Greece are here not at the site. For example, the Agamemnon Mask from Mycenae is here not in Mycanae. It's up from the Train station and Omonia Square. Theres a nice map here. http://www.athensguide.com/map/athens.htm Also, there is a nice link for the museum here.http://www.athensguide.com/map/athens.htm Google National Archeological Museum Athens and you'll find other sites.

Found it! Thanks a bunch. :-)

It appears that the nearest Metro station is Viktoria.

Yep, you can get the metro from Piraeus direct to Viktoria (25 minutes) and the museum is only about 5 minutes walk away. The museum is well worth a visit.

Depending on when you are going the new Acropolis Museum may well be open, and looks spectacular. It's due to open in September, I think.
