Does anyone know the best way to get from Nafplio to Hydra.
The last time we were there - 3 years ago - you had to drive or take a bus to the port of Ermioni, then catch the hydrofoil from there to Hydra.
Ron, I used the Hydrofoil from Ermioni to Hydra this year (on a RS tour). It was an easy and short trip! For travel from Nafplio to Ermioni, have a look at * www.ermionifuninthesun.gr/how-to-come.html * for further information on the Buses (you'll have to cut & paste the link inside the asterisks, given the current "technical problems on the HelpLine). One important tip - DON'T drink the tap water on Hydra - it's awful! There's lots of bottled water available. Happy travels!
The bus and Ferry option mentioned is the most dependable. Occasionally I see reference to a Ferry directly from Nafplio, but it must run only very infrequently.
There is no ferry from Nafplio to Hydra. From the mainland your three choices are Piraeus, Porto Heli and Ermioni. If you use Google Maps you can see their relation to each other.
Thanks every one for the great info
Ron - We were just going through Rick's Athens book and he has a couple of suggestions for getting from Nafplio to Hydra. One was using an organized day tour. It said to use it for one way transportation. The other was a bus to a town nearby Ermioni and then a taxi to Ermioni to catch the ferry. There was a lot of information, so you might want to consult the book.
