My son is going to Brno, Czech republic for a school year. He has a free ticket to get him from the USA to Paris/CDG. We are trying to get him from Paris to Prague or Brno. He wants to check 2 suitcases and have a carry-on. I think I understand that he can check one suitcase max 44 lbs and one carry-on max 12 lbs on the airlines. I'm totally confused with the additional baggage charges on all the different airlines. I'm thinking it'll be about $200 for the additional suitcase. I cannot figure out a train schedule from Paris to Brno at all!!! With all his luggage can anyone guide me as to what would be the most economical and/or best choice to get as far as Prague?
Hi Lisa, I think you'd have better luck if you re-posted this question under "general" or "transportation". There are people who have a lot of experience with train schedules, booking flights, and dealing with luggage who don't regularly check the "to the east" board. I hope your son has a great experience! I'm jealous:)
Thank you for the excellent suggestion. I'm a bit frazzled and appreciate your help.
As I am aware most European airlines don't charge for two pieces of luggage. You can check the train connection from Paris to Brno on Deutsche Bahn site. It takes about 15 hours plus minus.
I would imagine he would enjoy the train. So much to see. If he takes the train, I would suggest he get those luggage cable locks to secure them in the luggage storage bins while he sleeps and moves around. Better safe than sorry.
