Mostar and Montenegro

I am wondering if the following makes sense for 3 days of travel following a cruise, please comment if you have been? Day 1 drive (car rental) from Dubrovnik to Mostar , sightseeing and overnight in Mostar. Day 2 drive to Montenegro, sightseeing along the way, overnight in Budva or other? Please suggest Day 3 sightseeing and leisurely drive back to Dubrovnik = Cavtat to be precise for overnight before heading home. PS = prior to this itinerary we will be on a cruise which includes Split, Kvar, Dubronik, Mljet, Trogir, Kotor.
Would love to hear if you think my 3 day itinerary makes sense or is too rushed. And, if the driving is difficult or not from Mostar to Budva.

Although it was a few years ago that we made a day trip from Dubrovnik to Mostar, keep in mind that you are crossing a border. Even though we were on a bus from a cruise company (great way to see Croatia, glad you're doing that..), we spent two hours in line each way. I wonder if there is any way to investigate current border enforcement and to choose a likely faster crossing point? Certainly, make sure your documents are in order. We were told that our delay did not involve terror threats, for example, but was a form of rivalry or friction between pro-EU and anti-EU governments. (No, this is not a reliable "fact"!)

I just returned from a week in Croatia and I spent a night in Mostar. It took us 3 hours to drive in our rental car from Dubrovnik to Mostar and the border crossing only took 5-10 minutes. Just have your rental car packet that they will give you ready and your passports. They were stopping some cars and going through their luggage, but we crossed the Croatia/Bosnia border 4 times and were waved through very quickly every time. I think your day 1 sounds great, but if you decide not to spend the night in Mostar try to get their early. By around 1030 the city was swamped with other tourists. Also consider hiring Alma as a guide -- she is listed in the Rick Steves book and was very friendly and informative. Have fun!

Agree with pp. Mostar before and after the tourists is magical. Also try to get out of the touristy areas to see the real city-a modern metropolis that has embraced capitalism-so many new mega - malls!! It's such a contrast to the old town, but few visitors see that. Love it there. I was there for two nights last summer and I spent 4 days and nights there this summer and will go back next time I'm on the continent. Enjoy! Your trip sounds brilliant.
