Hello,
I was just wondering if anyone has taken the Montenegro side trip from Dubrovnik, recommended by Rick in his Croatia guidebook. If so, did you do it by yourself (w/car or public transport?), or did you take one of the tour companies guided day-trips there? Would you recommend this as an adventure for a younger couple, who like experiencing new cultures, but are not completely comfortable in high-risk/possibly unsafe situations.
Thank you very much.
Sincerely,
R.K.
In 2005, my husband and I did a sidetrip to Montenegro from Dubrovnik. We went through the local branch of the "Atlas" travel agency in Dubrovnik and did a full-day guided tour. We had a great time. The country is beautiful but I'm glad we didn't try to drive ourselves--the area is mountainous and the roads are often steep with several switchbacks. I don't remember anything high-risk or unsafe--a lot of other people on the tour even had children with them.
Hi
We were in Dubrovnik last week and rented a car there to drive to Montenegro. It was WONDERFUL! We rented from a company that was at the TI just outside of the city walls in the same place that Rick recommends for the internet (cafe Mamosa?). It cost us about $50 for the car that handled great. The car rental from atlas would have cost almost double. Many of the road are along the coast so we made sure not to have to drive at night. People wanted to drive faster than us but it was no problem because there were plent of places to pull over to the side of the road. Most of them were fantastic pic oppertunies as well. There were so many great places worth stopping that we were glad to make our own schedule. If you want more info let me know. Out of our three weeek trip it was my favorite day!
